The Lord's Gourds is an exciting new ministry in Central Georgia!
Started by Wanda Barbee and Gloria Dennard of Cochran, Bleckley County, Ga.
A patch of gourds just sprang up; and Wanda and Gloria came up with the idea for this unique ministry. They decided to call them the "Lord's Gourds", add some inspirational art, and use the gourds as a ministry tool.
Wanda and Gloria process and prepare the gourds for painting, then local artist, Marcia Manning plus several other Middle Georgia artists add the decorative artwork. Gloria adds cards to the gourds with God's word in relation to the picture.
Bring joy to any room with these inspirational gourds. A painted gourd makes a great conversation piece.
Gloria took one of the painted gourds to work to show everyone how God can work through ordinary people and ordinary things. The following is the message she sent back.
"We need two more gourds with the lion and the lamb. We have two custom orders.
One is for a friend I work with who is from Tennessee. She and her
husband have bought a mountain chalet that they will use as rental property. She wants a gourd with a black bear painted on it with
the wording "Love bears all things". She said she will put our cards by the
gourd in the chalet so we will be reaching people vacationing in
Tennessee !!! This
lady is a Christian, but the people she rents the property to, might not
be; but surrounded by God's word through art will plant
seeds that can grow."
Gloria knows an unsaved man who wants a picture of
his wife's dog painted on a gourd. A Bible Scripture can be found for any picture.
We want to move forward with this project. We are now planting and harvesting large African kettle gourds.
Let us know if you want to purchase a gourd (painted or unpainted) or if you want to help with this ministry. Try your hand at painting or carving gourds. We encourage you to participate in the blessings generated by this unique ministry.
We are just getting started, but we can see the Lord's Gourds being a great ministry tool for reaching some unreachable people through art. "We want God's hand in this, and we want God to bless this project."
